Artifact #1 - Digital Badge
The Digital Badge was something that really stuck with me. This is something you can create in order to reward students for accomplishing a task, conquering a computer skill, or so forth. By utilizing the digital students, it can create a competitive, but fun atmosphere. Students would have a little incentive as to why they are working on something or accomplishing a task. The one I created was for Tumblebooks. This is an online reading resource students utilize daily in order to get extra practice not only reading themselves, but listening to reading. It takes students awhile to get comfortable with this because they did not have much access to technology in Kindergarten. Not only are we asking students to log on their Chromebooks daily, but now we are asking them to log into online resources. Implementing this digital badge would encourage my students to continue working on accessing this resource on their own.
Artifact #2 - Student Self Assessment
This assignment was enjoyable to create. Having a student self assessment tool is so important when teaching students and assessing them. I do not want my students to just take a test just because. I want them to be aware of how they are doing and be in tune with their achievement. If they are more aware of how things are going for them in the classroom, they can be honest with themselves and see what they need to continue working on. The self assessment is very easy for them to maneuver around as well. It is user friendly and they can fill it out on their own. When they are done, I can take a look at it and then we can conference with each other and talk about their results. The open communication is crucial when talking about these results because we want to be honest with each other. I thought this would be challenging in first grade, but my kiddos can definitely do this. I can't wait to implement this even more and with multiple subject areas. As teachers we are always assessing ourselves and reflecting. We want our students to do the same as well!
