I thoroughly enjoyed this course over the past 8 weeks and believe it has been very beneficial. It has allowed me to explore different types of assessments and to get my students to self reflect on how they think they are doing rather than me just giving them the answers on it. This course help me become more self-aware of how I am presenting assessments and what am I doing with the results. I feel like I am doing a great job of this in my classroom already, but this course has given me opportunities to create other materials to incorporate into the classroom and have students become aware of how they are doing.
Something I really enjoyed creating was the digital badges. I have never actually hear of those to give students them once they complete a task or can accomplish a routine or what not. They can be create for simply following a routine, or it can be extended to students accomplishing a task using their Chromebooks. I created mine for something my students use weekly...Tumblebooks. With teaching first grade at a Title 1 school, we are the only school where first graders have a Chromebooks. At other schools, it starts in second grade. We use the Chromebooks everyday and Tumblebooks in an option. The digital badge will be awarded when students can show me they can accomplish it. I love this idea of digital badges because students then realize they are working towards something, rather than just trying to sign in. These are simple skills students need to be accustomed to moving forward, so might as well make it enjoyable for them.
Moving forward with courses, I can't wait to learn more about how to integrate technology into the classroom. Not only have I learned from the course materials, but we can learn so much from one another. What teachers share about what they are doing in the classrooms really can extend our own knowledge and allow us to expend what we doing in our classrooms as well. I always look forward with sharing my findings with my co-workers and students!
