After taking the course through University of Saint Francis, Effective Tech Integration, I have added many new insights on technology within the classroom. First and foremost, I feel like this course reminded me that technology is not a way to re-create new curriculum. It always seems overwhelming to staff when we say we need to use more technology in the classroom. What they don’t realize, is this is not just to add more lessons to the list of curriculum they are already meant to cover, but it is to replace or enhance their current curriculum. Adding technology to a lesson should be HELPFUL to teachers. Not only does it motivate and encourage additional student participation, but it may even make things easier for the teacher. My goal this year is to pass this message on to the staff at my school. I would love to help them find ways to integrate technology into many of their current lessons.
I really enjoyed the discussion topic on Flipping lessons. The idea that this strategy opens up opportunities for differentiation and the chance to dive into deeper project-based learning makes this a very useful strategy. Our discussion on the challenges that may come up with the strategy really helped me to plan ahead to prevent these problems from becoming an issue in my classroom. Initially, I felt that flipping a lesson was a fun concept for the older classes. Having the opportunity to flip one of my own lessons as an assignment, however, proved that this is certainly a strategy I can (and will) use in with my kiddos.
I have really grown this summer in my view of integrating technology in the classroom. I look forward to learning more from my peers and sharing these ideas with co-workers and students!
