Artifact #1 - Collaborative Assignment
This activity I created for Module 3 was one of my favorites! We had to create a collaborative assignment for students where they were working with others towards a common goal. To start, we needed to set up an online learning space using a platform we learned about in class or have been utilizing one in our classroom already. In this platform, we had to create a component that promotes collaboration. I based my assignment off our ELA unit on inspiring individuals. My kiddos were wrapping up the unit so I thought this was a perfect way to not only incorporate a collaborative assignment, but also to wrap up our unit. They needed to research an inspiring individual that was assigned to them. Then as a group, they had to address character traits describing this individual, identify what makes them inspiring, and how they can inspiring also. While students were researching and collaborating, I saw students engaging in great conversations. My kiddos were taking their assignment very seriously and taking their time throughout it. When two members came up with the same idea, they talked it out and came up with another idea together. This is why it was one of my favorite assignments. The engagement and conversation level surpassed my expectations and it turned out better than I thought it would.
Artifact #2 - Multimedia Project
This assignment I took as a challenge. I wasn't really sure what direction to go in at the beginning, but that was the beauty about it. I took it and make something that could benefit my students. For Module 4, we had to create multimedia project to implement in our classrooms to help benefit our students and their learning experience. I loved looking up extra tools to use for our inspiring individuals unit. It allowed me to utilize online tools of my choosing to enhance the lesson content I was presenting to my students. There were hyperlinks leading to video clips, online articles, and other resources students could explore. The kiddos loved this. I tied in all the books/topics we talked about throughout the unit and make one lesson to wrap it up. There were links directed to each topic that helped students get a better understanding of the time period of these books, and what these inspiring individuals did during their time that were so heroic. This assignment allowed me explore other forms of technology to promote learning for my students. I could have read each book, did a response for it, and then finish up the unit with the assessment. However, this allowed students to click on the links themselves and explore on their own time. I am really happy with how this multimedia lesson turned out and can't wait to use it in the future.
