Artifact #1 - eLearning Unit Plan
All the assignments that were done for this class were to help develop our final end product, the eLearning Unit Plan. There are so many reasons as to why this was so beneficial to me. This unit forced me to step out of my comfort zone and explore resources and create products that I wouldn’t typically do. When it comes to creating resources, specifically videos, I normally push that task aside because I feel there are better ones already out here. However, after having to create videos of my own for this course, I realize that it doesn’t have to be a daunting task and it can, in fact, be even better. Having students watch videos that we created allows me to make better use of my face to face time with students. It also allows me to have it for future references and the students can always go back and utilize them in their learning. I also gained more self-confidence in my ability to find and create online learning resources. Generally, I feel I do a great job, but this course allowed me access to so many more resources for me to explore and pass on to my students. The unit we created requires students to be part of a blended learning environment. Therefore, I feel this unit can be used as a stepping-stone for introducing my students to this type of learning. I feel much more comfortable with trying another unit in the future.
Artifact #2 - Road Map
This artifact was created with the intent to give students and parents an idea of what is to come throughout Unit 3: Inspiring Individuals. This road-map was geared more towards the parents for the reason my 1st graders might have a hard time fully understanding it. This is more than just a syllabus though. This road-map outlines the types of technologies students will be using throughout the course. It also gives a big picture idea of what they will be learning throughout the entire unit. Since this is geared towards the parents, they have access to the tools and can look at them more in depth. This allows them to understand better what is going on in the classroom. This is a great way for students to take ownership in their learning. There are many links to various documents that can be used throughout the year, not just at the beginning. At first, I was not sure how this assignment was going to turn out. As I began creating it, I realized that it would be useful for my students and parents. After constructing it, it dawned on me how much I can truly do with the tools I have and what I am doing in my class already. It also dawned on me how exposing students to all these different resources can be confusing not only for students, but their parents involved as well. By having this resource available, they have one place to go to look for explanations and tutorials. There are things I would change and implement for this road-map, so it definitely needs to be completed further. I like that this is an electronic document so that students do not need to worry about losing it throughout the year and they can always access it whenever they have a questions. I am excited to make changes and get it ready for implementation next year.
